Florida Ranks Number One for Fun Activities
Wallet Hub, the personal finance company that launched in August 2013, is based in Miami and owned by Evolution Finance, Inc. Recently, they conducted a study to determine the states which offer the most fun. States were ranked according to their level of entertainment and recreation. Wallet Hub evaluated those categories using metrics listed below:
- Number of attractions
- Variety of arts
- Weather
- Restaurants per capita
- Amusement parks per capita
- Golf courses per capita
- Movie theaters per capita
- Arcades per capita
- Fitness centers per capita
- Skiing facilities per capita
- Marinas per capita
- Shoreline mileage
- Beach quality
- Access to scenic byways
- Number of state fairs per capita
- National parks
- State and local spending on parks and recreation per capita
- Nightlife, including costs of beer and wine, movie costs, and bars
- Music festivals per capita
- Performing arts per capita
- Casinos per capita
Wallet Hub then determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score.
And the result is (drum roll): Florida is the most fun state in the country in 2024. More specifically, Florida takes the number one slot in number of restaurants, amusement parks, arcades and music festivals per capita. But even if those particular activities aren’t of interest to you, Florida has the third-most attractions per capita, and the sixth-best variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments. It also has the most marinas per capita and the second most miles of shoreline.
Additionally, the Florida government spends a lot on parks and recreation, the eighth-most in the country on a per capita basis.
Rounding out the top five for “fun” are California, Nevada, New York, and Colorado.
