Across the United States — and especially among younger generations — walkability is no longer just a nice-to-have: it’s a top priority. According to a recent survey cited by real-estate experts, 79% of Americans say walkability is important, and 78% say they’d pay more for a home near shops, services, and everyday conveniences.

Younger buyers lead the trend. Nearly 90% of Gen Z and millennial respondents say a walkable community is important, and about a third — roughly 33% — say they’d pay a significant premium for it.

More listings are marketed for walkability. Over the past year, the number of property listings highlighting walkable features more than doubled — rising from 0.6% in October 2024 to 1.3% in October 2025 — a clear reflection of demand shifting toward convenience and lifestyle.
