Budget Friendly Laundry Room Upgrades
Even if you’re on a budget, there are many ways to upgrade your laundry room to make it a more functional and attractive space. There will also be a ROI (return on investment) when and if you decide to sell your home. In any case, you spend considerable time in the laundry room, so why not make it more attractive? Here are some inexpensive ideas that can make a world of difference:
- Switch out the lighting to something more stylish and less bland. New fixtures can go a long way to improve the mood and vibe of the room.
- Replace cabinet pulls. Changing the hardware of the cabinet pulls to something more colorful or trendy can make a big difference.
- Install a new sink. Get rid of the old worn out one.
- Retrofit cabinets. Alter the inside of your cabinets for additional storage. Maybe, remove the doors to create open shelves.
- Look behind the doors. You can have more storage by hanging a shelf or two behind the door.
- Double-up your washer and dryer. Although this idea is a bit costly, if you have the budget and the room, add a second washer or dryer. This can save you lots of time.
- Hang curtains. Bring in some color to the usual drab and dull laundry room.
- Think wallpaper. If you want to really change things, get some wallpaper to spruce up the room. Or, if wallpaper is not your thing, how about a fresh coat of paint?
- Neaten things up with simple hooks. Keep your counters and floors free of clutter by adding plenty of hooks. This helps to keep things organized.
- Change fixtures. Besides cabinet hardware, change those old, tired sink fixtures. Brass or gold color should work well.
- Build a countertop. This is the best way to fold the washed clothing. If you have a front load washer or dryer, the countertop can be above either machine.
- Tile backsplash. Since a laundry room is usually a small space, relatively few tiles can create an eye-catching display. Also, tile the small area behind your washer and dryer.
- Upgrade your hanging. Hanging clothes is an eye sore. A slim drying rack that mounts to the wall is a great space-saving remedy to help manage your delicates. When not in use, it simply folds flat and stays out of your way.
- Hang a rod. Add an extra hanging rod. Use one that screws into the wall rather than a tension rod, to assure it can handle the weight of the clothing.
- Think vertically. Open shelving keeps all your laundry necessities within easy reach. You can install floating shelves, for example.
- Trade out old, tired cabinet doors for something exciting.
- Keep everything in its proper place. Add an open cabinet with wire baskets for additional stowing.
- Hang artwork. Adding artwork to the laundry room elevates the space, so it doesn’t have that super-utility feel.
