Fort Myers and Naples Rank as Some of the Safest Cities to Live in
According to U.S. News and World Report, there is extremely welcoming news, in general, for residents of the Sunshine State. But there is even better news for residents of southwest Florida.
US News and World Report used FBI statistics concerning felony and property crimes per 100,000 residents to determine how safe various cities are across the country. Altogether 3000 cities and counties were studied. Also, included in the statistical analysis were the number of injuries resulting from crime per 100,000 population.
Other metrics which were included but were given less weight than the local crime rates in the mathematical formula included proximity to emergency medical facilities, spending on health and emergency services, vehicle crash rates, among others.
So, let's dig into that good news I began with.
Amazingly, thirteen of the top 25 cities on the list are located in Florida (just over half). Just as stunningly, eight of the top ten are located in the Sunshine State.
Additionally, the top three safest cities in America are in our state. And for residents of southwest Florida, get ready to smile. Three of the top ten safest cities are located in southwest Florida (Naples, Fort Myers, and Sarasota). Naples ranks as the safest city in America, Fort Myers ranks third, and Sarasota ranks seventh.
